Hayella situliformis Gartner, 1969
Description: Medium-sized circular placolith coccoliths with a wide, open central area and highly birefringent tube cycle. Shield elements are distinct and show obliquity.
Remarks:
Neogene: Hayella
Paleogene: Hayella situliformis
Hayella simplex Bown & Dunkley Jones, 2006
Description: Medium-sized (5-7 µm) circular placoliths with an open, vacant central-area. The shield elements are distinct and show obliquity. The shield image is brighter towards the inner edge.
Remarks:
Holotype: Paratype:
Neogene: Hayella
Paleogene: Hayella simplex
Neogene: Hayella
Paleogene: Hayella? gauliformis
Hayella challengeri (Muller, 1974) Theodoridis, 1984 [Nannocorbis]
Description: Tubular murolith, with proximal and distal flanges, medium sized (Muller 1974 gives the size in the text as 3.5-4μm but according to the scale bar the holotype is 7μm across).
Remarks: Superficially similar to U. rotula in plan view, but easily distinguished by through-focusing. N.B. Assignment to Hayella is uncertain since structure of the, Eocene, type species H. situliformis, is unclear. H. challengeri appears structurally similar to Ochrosphaera neapolitana.
Original description:
Synonym: Hayella aperta Theodoridis, 1984 - described as similar to H. challengeri but larger. However, the the holotype of H. aperta is only 8.5μm across vs 7μm for H. challengeri.
Neogene: Hayella; Hayella challengeri
Genus Hayella Gartner, 1969
Description:
Remarks: Hayella was desribed fom the Eocene and assignment of the Miocene species H. challengeri to it is tentative.
Type species: Hayella situliformis
Neogene: Hayella
Paleogene: Hayella situliformis
