Calciosolenia fossilis (Deflandre in Deflandre & Fert, 1954) Bown in Kennedy et al., 2000

Description: Elongate, narrow scapholiths. Morphologically comparable with the extant Calciosolenia brasiliensis (Lohmann 1919), but fossil specimens have tended to be classified as Calciosolenia (or Scapholithus) fossilis.

Remarks: The extant species show considerable varimorphism across their coccospheres and there is evidence of similar variability in the fossil forms, when found as collapsed coccospheres.
