Discoaster kugleri Martini and Bramlette, 1963

Description: Central-area wide and flat. Free rays short, with notched ends rather than true bifurcations; often thicker than the central area.

Remarks: This is a Middle Miocene species but it appears to evolve directly from D. deflandrei rather than D. exilis, intermediate specimens occur.
