Gephyrocapsa oceanica

Gephyrocapsa oceanica Kamptner 1943

Description: Large species of Gephyrocapsa. Coccoliths with bridge at high angle to long axis, inner tube protrudes to form collar around central area.

Remarks: Coccospheres often occur in clusters in the plankton. Predominantly a low latitude eutrophic species.

Size: Coccospheres, 6 to 10 µm; coccoliths, 3.5 to 6 µm long.
