Hayaster perplexus

Hayaster perplexus (Bramlette and Riedel, 1954) Bukry, 1973 [Discoaster]

Description: Distal shield consists of only 10-14 rays, proximal shield diminutive.

Remarks: Often disintegrates into separate elements. The extant species is deep-photic. This is the only described species but it is rather variable in size and in relative size of the shields.

Range: Palaeogene to NN21.
