Calcite orientations

length fast - the normal orientation of calcite, with c-axis parallel to elengation of crystal. In images taken on my microspcoe with xpl and gypsum plate such crytals will be blue when orientated NW-SE. Examples - radial cystal units of eg Reticulofenestra, Florisphaera profunda liths, Tq. carinatus nannoliths

length slow - with c-axis perpendicular to elongation of crystal. In images taken on my
microspcope with xpl and gypsum plate such crytals will be yellow when
orientated NW-SE. Examples - ceratoliths, Orthorhabdus serratus nannoliths
