This set of sketches have been knocking around for quite some time. Terri Dunn and I made them from the notes we took at the initial Gulf Coast Taxonomic Equivalency meeting back in the mid 1990s. They are an attempt to document all of the various morphotypes of this group as used by the folks who attended that meeting. At that time, there were three official specific names in use. In 2003(JNR 25#1) Wuchang Wei added a subspecies - Discoaster berggrenii extensus. Figures 7 and 8 would fit into that taxon.

If have a look at the illustrated nannofossil-like forms which are seen in the plate, they would be recognized as silicified Watznaueria or Cyclagelosphaera species. What can be considered on this subject?
Their sample rock is seen as silicified thin sedimentary rocks in the field (above pict. in plate 2) and as a calcschist in the thin section (Aa-Ab in Pl. 2).

I have sample some samples from the cruise.But, after i filter the coccolithophores to the polycarbonate membrane,the cocclith and the coccolithophores disappeared.
how can i get the good samples?
1. filter on the board during the cruise.2. fixed them used saturation Na2CO3 mixed formalin. final pH=8.0.and else? i don't know.
so i hope someone can help me to solve this question.

We cannot suceed in solving taxonomical and stratigraphical problems. Sedimentary processes and environmental features are also significant as well as finding fossil records. If every nannofossil record in rocks sould be assumed as synsedimentary data, there was no index fossil or taxon. Do you think about that we have been enough to describe originally nannofossil records without distinguishing reworked nannofossil data from synsedimentary ones?

I'm just concerned about the species Algirosphaera profunda. Is it visible under the light microscope and if yes, how does it look like? I can't find any picture from the light microscope that could give me an idea.
